Brenda Sue Bruce, age 78, of Benton, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at the Stonebridge Nursing and Rehab Center of Benton.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2023, at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton, with Rev. Mark Minor officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery of Benton. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Leffler Funeral Home.
Brenda was born on March 2, 1945, in Christopher, Illinois; the daughter of Roy Lefler and Mary (Runnels) Lefler. She married Gary C. Bruce on December 28, 1963, and he survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of Whittington Church.
Brenda enjoyed to read, playing the piano and singing Gospel music. Her greatest enjoyment was being with her grandchildren.
Surviving is her loving husband of fifty-nine years Gary Bruce of Benton; two children: Teri Smith and husband Dennis of Benton, Charles Bruce of Benton; grandchildren: Cassandra Vaughn of West Frankfort, Justin Vaughn of Benton, and Domonique Bruce of New York; great-grandchildren: Edan Sisney, Ezreal Vaughn, Luna Vaughn; two sisters: Ruth Colleen Pyron and husband Gerald of Benton, Elvira Jodean Avery of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Clyde Lefler; and three sisters Juanita Phillips, Delphia Kent, and Irene Johnson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Whittington Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
