Clyde Ray Elimon, 89, Benton, IL went to be with the Lord at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2011. He was born September 25, 1921 in Cambria, IL to George H. and Martha Elimon.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 in the Immanuel Baptist Church, Benton, IL with Rev. Chuck Bass, Rev. Eddie Paul Davis and Pastor Sammy Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton, with Military Rites to be conducted by the Thompsonville American Legion Post 1194 and the Illinois National Guard Honor Team. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Immanuel Baptist Church. In Lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church or to CLC Hospice of the VA Medical Center, 2401 West Main Street, Marion, IL 62959. Arrangements are through the Leffler - Poulson Funeral Home of Benton.
He was an Ordained Deacon in 1948, serving three Southern Baptist Churches in the area, and was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Benton, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class.
Mr. Elimon was a former board member of Benton Community Bank. He was also a lifetime business owner and a member of the American Legion Post 1194 in Thompsonville, IL.
He served his country from 1942 - 1946 in the Southwest Pacific with the 960th Engineers attached to the 5th Air Force.
Clyde is survived by his loving wife, Wilma, of 67+ years; a daughter, Judy and husband Cliff Jones; three granddaughters: Leigh Ann and husband Jim Ward, Kelly and husband Ty Kanzaki, and Lori and husband Chuck Craven, all of Benton; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Nadine and husband Rolland Dunivan, Benton, and Verdine and husband Ed Miller, Marion; a sister-in-law: Jean Elimon, Thompsonville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Martha Elimon; a brother: Jim Elimon; a great-granddaughter: April Dawn Chaplain; and a grandson-in-law: Mark Chaplain.
