Dale Adams Obituary

Dale Edward Adams, age 86, of Benton, passed away at 6:55 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at the SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery of Benton, with Rev. Gary West officiating. Private family visitation will be held. 

Arrangements are through the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.

Dale was born on January 23, 1934 in Benton; the son of Arthur Adams and Gladys (Summers) Adams. He married the former Lois Mae Davis on October 9, 1954, and she preceded him in death on January 30, 2018.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Benton; and was a member of the North Benton Missionary Baptist Church.

Dale enjoyed quail hunting, deer hunting, woodworking in his shop, and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball.

Dale was a Master Mason for 58 years, a 50 year and life member of the Benton Masonic Lodge #64 A.F. & A.M., where he was Worshipful Master in 1990. He was also District Deputy Grand Master of the 14th Southern District of the State of Illinois, from 1996 – 1999. He was a Certified Lodge Instructor from 2001 – 2003, Grand Lecturer 2003 – 2018, and Grand Lecturer Emeritus from 20018 to the present, Committee Member of the Masonic Children’s Home in Murphysboro from 2005 – 2011, Area Assistant Deputy Grand Master Southern Area from 2004-2005. Dale was an Honorary Member of numerous Masonic Lodges throughout Southern Illinois which include Mt. Vernon Lodge #31, Makanda Lodge #434, Murphysboro Lodge # 498, Herrin Prairie Lodge #693. Dale started his Masonic journey at St. Paul’s Lodge #500 in Springfield, Illinois. He will be greatly missed amongst the Masonic Fraternity.

Surviving are two sons: Robert “Bob” Adams of Benton, David Adams of West Frankfort; a grandson Toby Adams of Marion; a sister Doris June Beningus of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Phillip Gene Adams, and a brother Ron Adams.

Memorial contributions in memory of Dale Adams, may be made to the Benton Masonic Lodge #64 A.F. & A.M., and will be accepted at the Leffler Funeral Home.
