Henry Edwin "Sunny" Sims, 75, of Benton; died at 11:23 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Graveside services with Military Rites to be performed by the Benton American Legion Post #280, V.F.W. Post #2671 and the National Guard will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery of Benton, with Dr. Hazel Andros officiating. There will be no visitation family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Arrangements are through the Leffler - Poulson Funeral Home of Benton.
Mr. Sims was born on February 20, 1936 in St. Louis, the son of Floyd Tinnin and Beulah (Cashen) Tinnin. He was raised by his mother and step-father: Beulah (Cashen) Tinnin Sims and Maurice Sims. He married the former Mary Alice Jones on September 2, 1962 and she survives.
Sunny worked in the steel industry as a burner. He was also a LPN, had worked with the US Postal Service in Milwaukee, WI; and served 7 1/2 years in the United States Air Force and served in the National Guard. He enjoyed participating in Civil War re-enactments as a Union Soldier, and he was a proud member of the NRA.
Survivors include his wife: Mary Alice Sims of Benton; a daughter: Jennifer Sims and husband Jeff George of Whittington; a son: Kelley Sims and wife Ginger Farmer-Sims of Christopher; four grandchildren: Joshua George and Justin Wagoner of Whittington, Johanna and Derik Davis of Christopher; also he is survived by many half- brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; an aunt Fern Cummings and a half-brother: Ken Sandusky.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery; Benton, IL.
