Lyndell Vernell Chamness

Mr. Lyndell Vernell Chamness, age 79, of Benton, passed away at 12:26 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Carle Hospital of Champaign, IL.

A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2021, at the West City Church of God, with Rev. Harol Whitlock officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the West City Church of God.

Arrangements are with the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.

Lyndell was born on August 6, 1942, in Herrin, Illinois; the son of Lester Vernell Chamness and Mabel (Williams) Chamness. He married the former Shirley Ann Parks on July 7, 1967, and she survives.

He was a retired maintenance foreman with Old Ben Coal Company.

He was a member of the West City Church of God. Lyndell enjoyed worshipping his Lord with his church family, whom he loved like family. He also enjoyed the food and fellowship with the “Eating Out Crew”. all church activities and services.

Lyndell liked hunting, fishing, and playing golf.

Surviving is his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley Ann Chamness of Benton, IL; three children: Tina Harpool and husband Kevin of Benton, IL, Keith Chamness and wife Misty of Benton, IL, Michael Chamness of St. George, UT; grandchildren: Brittany Elliot and husband Eric of Edwardsville, IL, Bryson Harpool and wife Anna of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Sydney Chamness of West Frankfort, IL, Dillan Chamness and fiancée Katelyn of Mt. Vernon, IL, Tyler Chamness of Benton, IL, Faith Vernaci and husband Trey of Jackson, MS, Chris Chamness, Alex Chamness, Sara Chamness, and Devon Despotopulos of Benton, IL..

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Ronnie Chamness; two sons: Kevin Lee Chamness and Craig Chamness.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Lyndell Chamness, may be made to West City Church of God, and will be accepted at the services.
