Marilyn Jean Murphy

Marilyn Jean Murphy, age 70, of Benton, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, at her home in Benton, IL.

Marilyn was born on January 4, 1956, in Franklin County, IL, the daughter of Leon “Pee Wee” Murphy and Jean (Rankin) Murphy.

She was a retired Flight Attendant with United Airlines.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Benton, IL.

Marilyn enjoyed flamingoes. Her favorite color was pink, and she loved anything that was colored pink. She loved Halloween, it was her favorite holiday. She also enjoyed beautiful sunsets, and she loved her dogs.

Surviving is a daughter Michelle Shaffer of Washington, three grandchildren all of Washington, a half-brother Bill Murphy of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Timothy Leon Murphy.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 10, 2026, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Benton, with Rev. Father Urban Osuji officiating.

The Leffler Funeral Home of Benton is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Care Animal Shelter, 6228 Country Club Road, Murphysboro, IL 62966.
