Mr. Frank Russell Hess, age 79, of Akin, passed away at 5:24 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2024, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Russell was born on December 28, 1944, in Belle Rive, IL; the son of William Thomas Hess and Neva (Miller) Hess. On March 14, 1965, he married the former Anna Marie Moore, and together they shared 59 years of marriage.
He worked several jobs throughout his life including, FS, Old Ben Coal Mine 25, pest control technician, truck driver with Illini Asphalt, Paula Rone, and Buntin Farms.
Russ enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and cutting wood. In general, he loved the outdoors.
Russell was a member of the Akin Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife Anna Hess of Akin, IL; two sons: Brian Hess and wife Shannon of Thompsonville, IL, Brent Hess and wife Marissa of Thompsonville, IL; grandchildren including Brandon Hess of Benton, IL, Dillon Hess and wife Danielle of Benton, IL, Danyelle Hess of Macedonia, IL, Briar Hess, Layton Hess and twins Brylan and Breanna Hess all of Thompsonville, IL; great-grandchildren: Bowe Kelley, Ivy Hess, Allie, Kendal and Emerie; a sister Dorris Hayes of Opdyke, IL; a nephew Kelvin Hess-Reynolds of Kentucky; three nieces: Cindy Pearce and husband Nick, Candy McMillan and Christie Ince all of Opdyke, IL.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Morris Hess, and a brother-in-law Calvin Hayes.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton, with Pastor Roger Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Brady Cemetery, Macedonia, IL. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Leffler Funeral Home of Benton.
Memorial contributions in memory of Russell, may be made to either the Akin Missionary Baptist Church, or to the Brady Cemetery, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
